Spellbook vs ClientSafeAI: contract AI, and where your documents go

Is there a Spellbook alternative where the model runs on our own server?

The short answer

Spellbook drafts and reviews contracts inside Microsoft Word. It runs on AWS in Canada and the US and sends requests to OpenAI and Anthropic models under zero-data-retention agreements. ClientSafeAI doesn’t work inside Word. It answers questions about your documents with a model that runs on a server belonging to your firm alone.

  • Pick Spellbook if your day is drafting and redlining contracts in Word, and you want clause libraries, playbooks and redlines under your own name.
  • Pick ClientSafeAI if the requirement is that client documents never reach a third-party model provider at all, and you want one published price for the whole firm.

When Spellbook is the better choice

  • You draft and redline contracts in Microsoft Word all day and want the AI right there. We don’t have a Word add-in.
  • You want a clause library and playbooks that check contracts against your firm’s standards as you draft.
  • If a client questionnaire requires a SOC 2 Type II report today, Spellbook has one. We don’t yet.

What ClientSafeAI actually is

A Private AI Workspace is a GPU server ordered for one firm. Your documents, the AI model and the database all live on it, and answers cite the page they came from. Call and meeting recordings are transcribed on the same server. It costs $499 a month, flat, with no per-seat pricing. How the data is handled is set out on the security page.
