Is ChatGPT Business or Enterprise safe enough for client documents?
The short answer
OpenAI’s business plans don’t train on your data by default, let admins set how long conversations are kept, and have SOC 2 Type 2 reports. What they don’t offer is hardware of your own: your documents are processed on OpenAI’s shared cloud service alongside every other customer’s.
- Pick ChatGPT if you want a general-purpose assistant for a whole team, with apps, integrations and independent security audits, and shared cloud infrastructure is acceptable under your confidentiality duties.
- Pick ClientSafeAI if client documents must stay on a machine nobody else uses, and you’d rather pay one flat price for the whole firm than a subscription per user.

When ChatGPT Business & Enterprise is the better choice
- You need a general assistant for everyone in the firm, not just document questions: writing, spreadsheets, images, apps and integrations.
- If a client or insurer questionnaire requires a SOC 2 Type 2 report today, OpenAI has one. We don’t yet.
- You handle HIPAA-covered health records and need a BAA. OpenAI can sign one; we don’t.
- Your team is small and occasional, and a per-user plan costs less than $499 a month.
What ClientSafeAI actually is
A Private AI Workspace is a GPU server ordered for one firm. Your documents, the AI model and the database all live on it, and answers cite the page they came from. Call and meeting recordings are transcribed on the same server. It costs $499 a month, flat, with no per-seat pricing. How the data is handled is set out on the security page.
